4th HTx Forum and 4th HTx Expert Forum – 3rd & 4th October 2022, Barcelona

On the 3rd & 4th of November 2022, HTx organised its fourth Forum and Expert Forum in Barcelona (Spain). The HTx Forum is an annual meeting where representatives of HTx consortium partners, as well as senior representatives from the most important stakeholders of the HTx project, meet to discuss the project’s latest achievements. The Expert Forum is also an annual event organised to connect with and collect input from other relevant European scientific projects and scientific societies.

The main topic of this year’s Forum was how European healthcare will use Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to support decision-making in the upcoming ten years. The session opened with a welcome presentation by Wim Goettsch (University of Utrecht, The Netherlands), leader of the HTx project, which was followed by presentations from experts from Zorginstituut Nederland (The Netherlands), Julius Centre (The Netherlands), University of Oulu (Finland), Syreon Research Institute (Hungary), National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (United Kingdom) and University of York (United Kingdom)

The following day saw the annual HTx Expert Forum. The Forum was divided into two main sections, starting with a presentation from Wim Goettsch on the importance of data sharing and a European HTA collaboration. The first half of the day focused on HTA regulation, which kicked off with a presentation by Anne Willemsen from EUnetHTA – Zorginstituut Nederland (The Netherlands) on the current state of joint HTA in Europe. Next was Milou Hogervorst (University of Utrecht, The Netherlands), explaining the various levels of complexities of assessments and data provided to stakeholders. The last presenter before the break was Antal Zemplényi (Syreon Research Institute, Hungary), whose presentation focused on the transferability of HTA methods & results developed in HTx.

The second half of the day focused on European data sharing, starting with a presentation by Johannes Ahlqvist from Sitra (Finland) on the work of the Joint Action Toward the European health data space (TEHDAS) and digital therapeutics. The next two presenters were Peter Rijnbeek from Erasmus MC (The Netherlands) and Juan José Abellan from the European Medicines Agency (The Netherlands), focusing on the latest achievements of two European-funded projects, the European Health Data Evidence Network (EHDEN) and Data Analysis and Real-World Interrogation Network (DARWIN-EU). The final presenter of the day was Diana Delnoij (Zorginstituut Nederland, The Netherlands), discussing the alignment of HTA regulations and data sharing.

We would like to thank the colleagues at Synapse and our project manager Nathalie Bofarull for organising and hosting the two-day event.
